The polarization along $z$ can excite the $\Delta L_z=0$ transitions. ![]() To see why, simply decompose the circular polarization into a superposition of linear polarizations: one along $z$, and one along (say) $x$. More specifically, it can excite transitions which keep $L_z$ constant, and it can also excite transitions which change it by $\Delta L_z=\pm \hbar$. In this case, the radiation can excite both $\sigma$ and $\pi$ transitions, although you wouldn't really call them that. DSP has allowed me to grow my knowledge and professionalism as well through the various events put on by executive positions throughout the semester.A: In case 4, what kind of transition will happen? The environment is so encouraging of taking on leadership positions and being involved in leadership even when not in a group. Strothman: Delta Sigma Pi has helped me grow as a leader more than I could have imagined when I arrived at the University of Delaware. Lerner: How has your student group helped you grow, personally or professionally? I also hope to expand our network and continue to advertise our brand all year so students are aware of DSP and business fraternities’ presence on campus. We will all be there soon enough so I hope to educate our members as much as possible on these important topics. Strothman: I hope to expand our knowledge on leadership and diversity, equity, and inclusion topics especially in regards to the professional world. Lerner: What are your goals for the future of your student group? Anyone can send a message in our group chat at any time and there are sure to be multiple responses of members willing and happy to help. All of us being business majors is very helpful and allows for us to have more resources within the business school. Strothman: Delta Sigma Pi is unique in the way that we are constantly supporting each other. Lerner: What is unique about your student group? I know they are going to be great members! I was so excited to have the opportunity to pass down my love for DSP to them. Strothman: The best memory I have would be this past semester’s initiation when I got my two littles. Lerner: What is your best memory or proudest moment from this student group? Strothman: Delta Sigma Pi is a professional fraternity organized to foster the study of business in universities to encourage scholarship, social activity and the association of students for their mutual advancement by research and practice to promote closer affiliation between the commercial world and students of commerce and to further a higher standard of commercial ethics and culture and the civic and commercial welfare of the community. Lerner: What is the mission/goal of your student group? Strothman: We meet on Monday evenings for Chapter in Willard Hall and have approximately 115 members currently. Lerner: When and where does your student group meet and approximately how many members do you have? ![]() DSP was the perfect place for me because it was a group of like-minded individuals looking to grow professionally and, as business students, that also incorporated social aspects and we all grew close bonds. ![]() I was looking for a place on campus where I could belong. Strothman: I chose to join Delta Sigma Pi during the fall semester of 2021 when I was a freshman coming from out of state. Lerner: When and why did you choose to join this student group? Strothman shared why she joined Delta Sigma Pi, what makes this group stand out and how to get involved!
